Citizen energy community
BEG WIEN is a non-profit association run by volunteers that supports its members in sharing and trading electricity. Producers (suppliers) make a portion of their self-generated and sustainably produced electricity available to the community. This electricity is then consumed by our consumers (buyers) at the exact moment it is produced.

The current
Unsere Energiegemeinschaft benötigt keine eigenen Stromleitungen und leitet den Strom auch nicht physisch um – die Abwicklung erfolgt rein rechnerisch. Über den Netzbetreiber erhalten wir von Dir die Verbrauchs- oder Erzeugungsdaten Deines Smartmeters und verteilen den Strom anschließend über unser Verrechnungssystem an unsere Mitglieder. Strom wird dabei nur so lange verteilt, wie unsere Produzent:innen liefern. Stromausfälle können wir daher keinesfalls verursachen, denn Dein Energieversorger liefert weiter, wenn wir keinen Strom liefern können. Aktuell bieten wir PV-Strom und suchen Erzeuger von Wasser- und Windkraft aus Wien, Niederösterreich und dem Burgenland.

The tasks of BEG WIEN therefore essentially include the registration of members, the registration of metering points with the grid operator, and the billing of electricity to members. This involves complying with regulations and laws, as well as handling accounting and tax matters. Once a year, our board also sets the electricity price, the administrative surcharge, and the remuneration. You, on the other hand, can sit back and relax – because after you register, everything runs automatically.
